[The Lord] Which executes judgment for the oppressed: which gives food to the hungry. The Lord loosens the prisoners: Psalm 146:7
It is a strange thing to live life restricted without physical restraints. There are people that are serving a prison sentence as set by the courts, but their greatest jail is not the restraints on their hands and feet; their greatest jail is in their hearts.
Equally, there some who live in their own homes outside prisons, yet they are bound with invisible restraints in their lives. They may be physically free, but they are controlled by unhealthy habits. Some may have no physical restraints on their bodies, but depression has captivated their hearts. Surely, there ought to be a better way to live.
You must know that no prison is equal to the prison of the heart and no freedom can exceed the liberty in the heart. One maybe freed from prison and the chains removed from their hands and feet, but until the heart is free, that person will still be in restraints. If that which led him to jail is still in him, he will soon end back in jail. So how can one be free from the prison of the heart?
From the opening Scripture, God alone has the key to set prisoners free. Scripture says God anointed Jesus to preach good tidings to the meek; …to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Is 61:1, Luke 4:18. God has set Jesus as the key to inner peace. Only when we get to know Jesus are we able to experience inexpressible freedom in our lives. For this reason, Jesus says if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed, John 8:36.
Jesus is that Son that sets you free. He is that peace that the soul is yearning for. He is the liberty that sets the soul free from the bondage of the world. Though you maybe bound in physical chains and shackles, Christ can give you peace in your heart that no one can ever take from you.
You have heard it said that “Knowledge is power”, but that depends of the freedom it gives you. There is knowledge that binds you to the fear that torments your soul. You live life worried because of what you know. This is also a prison without bars.
However, the true freedom you enjoy is dependant on the truth in the knowledge you have. Jesus said, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32. Only the truth can set your free. That truth is Jesus Christ. Get to know Him that He may set you free.
If you have accepted Jesus into your life, determine to increase your knowledge about Him. The truth in the knowledge you have embraced will determine the degree of freedom you enjoy.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father I thank you for your word. I pray my knowledge and revelation of the Lord Jesus increases much more that I may be free even more. I pray am free from things that I do not know are binding my life. In Jesus name, I pray, amen.
